Kristine Biller Mattson began her professional career in 1997 with Opera Roanoke singing the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte. She went on to get her Masters of Music at Indiana University singing various leading lady roles: Micaela, Mimì, Princess Ninetta, Adina and Manon (Massenet). She also won various competitions: placing 2nd (collegiate, 1999) and then 4th (professional, 2000) at the Palm Beach Opera Competition. She also placed 2nd in the Florida Grand Competition in 2003. She graduated Indiana University in May, 2002 and began singing with The Opera Company of Philadelphia that fall. She has sung Frasquita in Carmen and the leading soprano role, Wanda in The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein, starring Stephanie Blythe. Last spring, she sang the role of Caroline in the much anticipated Margaret Garner at Michigan Opera Theater. Margaret Garner made its debut several months ago at Michigan Opera Theater where Kristine sang the cover of Caroline as part of a critically acclaimed cast including Denyce Graves, Angela Brown, Gregg Baker and Rodney Gilfry. In the fall, 2005 she sang another world premiere piece, The Happy Prince, with Kentucky Opera. Recently she sang with The Opera Company of Philadelphia as the cover of Caroline in Margaret Garner, and has just returned from Michigan Opera Theatre, where she sang the role of Clorinda, in the critically acclaimed La Cenerentola. This past summer she was chosen to sing for The Voice Foundation, honoring amongst others, Robert Goulet and Harolyn Blackwell. Upcoming events include performances of the role of Micaela and Adina with the Helena Symphony, the role of Sandmäncchen with the Opera Company of Philadelphia in Hänsel und Gretel and the soprano solo in the Verdi Requiem with the North Penn Symphony. |
